Lesson 27: Learning the Right Truths
Read Galatians 6:1-18 - www.bible.com/bible/59/gal.6
6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches.
7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
One of the most basic lies in our world today is that there are no consequences for our actions. This lie allows actions to be separated from the people so people can be allowed to feel good about themselves without having to answer for their words or actions. Truth, according to the world’s standards, has become a very uncertain thing.
But God says no one can lie to Him and get away with it. He sees all, understands all, and everything will one day be shown as truth or lie in His courtroom. As the end of this chapter of earth’s history nears, the Bible tells us deception and delusion will increase in both quantity and power. Jesus said in Matthew 24:24 that this deception will eventually grow so strong that even those of us who follow God could be deceived – but God has promised to keep His children to the end of human history and beyond. We need to check all things against the only real Truth – God Himself.
The Truth opposing this great lie is restated in Verse 8 above – every sin has a consequence. What we sow, we will reap. Many of us wonder at the awful things we see happening in the world today, and are amazed how a loving God could allow such evil to exist. It is not God’s fault the evil exists; the evil is the consequence of mankind’s sin. We have chosen the way of self, and with it we will reap death and destruction.
The good news in verses 9 and 10, however, is that we do not have to choose evil. We can choose God and through Him and His way reap all the good things He has for us in His eternity. We just need to keep holding onto the Truth, even when it seems we can no longer see it clearly. We must continue to walk by faith and not by sight. Sometimes it may seem as if all the words we say or the good we do has no effect at all. But God promises in Isaiah 55:11 that His word will never return to Him without accomplishing all He sent it to do. Do not give up. Do not be discouraged. Victory is already His.
*When have you felt like giving up on doing the right thing, and then received encouragement from someone to keep going?
