Lesson 25: Diligence to His truth

Read 2 Peter 2:1-22- https://www.bible.com/bible/59/2pe.2
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

As we near the end of this chapter of history on earth, we will find more and more false teaching and deception around us in everything. Jesus warned us in Matthew 24 of these things being signs of His soon return to earth. Peter tells us false teachers have been with us for a long time, and he is correct; but the deception of what they teach will grow stronger as the end draws nearer.

One of the greatest dangers in our lives is the desire to follow what we WANT in life, or what we FEEL. The needs of these earthly bodies are not to be our masters. We must control our bodies, and place them on the altar to God for His service – Romans 12:1-2 and 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.

Following how we feel is equally as dangerous, for we are by nature people who want to be loved and appreciated. We are hero worshipers. So when someone who is beautiful or strong comes to pay attention to us, we want very much to believe they are as good as they look and as right as they are strong. But the Bible warns us in 2 Corinthians 11:14 that even the devil disguises himself as an angel of light. We can be deceived easily if we follow what we feel or want.

We must diligently follow Truth. Jesus said He IS Truth – John 14:6. This means, first, that we must KNOW Truth. We must spend time each day reading and studying the Bible and talking with Him in prayer. Whenever you open the Bible, ask Jesus to talk to you as you read – you are reading His words; ask Him to make them real and personal to you.

This does not mean that the Bible means what we want it to mean – Jesus will never contradict Himself from any other place in the Bible. The entire Bible is His word, just as we read in the last lesson. But He can and will talk to you personally from it as you ask Him to and determine in your heart to believe all He says.
