Lesson 7: Faithful to your calling
1 Timothy 2:5-7 - www.bible.com/bible/59/1ti.2

5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

What has God called you to do? If we do not know the answer, it’s time for us to seek it. Seek it in prayer. Seek it with a pure heart. And after we have sought it, we must obey what He says. The best place to be as we seek for God’s will for our life is as a member of a Godly church where our Spiritual gifts are meant to be used. It is also the place where other believers can encourage us in this time of seeking. Church is also a place where we can try out different things – try teaching a class of children, helping with the Sunday services in various capacities, maybe helping to take care of the church building by cleaning or keeping the grounds looking nice, maybe by visiting those who are sick to encourage them, or perhaps helping older or disabled members with things they need. There are many, many things we can do in our church, and each one is a special gift from God to our church through one of its members. Each way of helping is specifically for the purpose of building that church into the organization that can effectively minister to the community in which it is planted. For a list of the most frequently mentioned Spiritual Gifts, please see Ephesians 4 and 1 Corinthians 12.

As you seek for your place in your church, keep asking God to show you where He wants you to serve Him in this group of believers. He will show you, either through another believer as they ask you to do something for the church, or through a peace in your heart coming from knowing this is what you enjoy. God has an amazing way, when we trust Him, of making our calling a thing of joy in our life. It may well be, as it is in the life of this writer, that we are completely aware we cannot do in our own strength what God asks of us. Yet, if He asks it of us, He will also provide the ability in us to accomplish it – He will do it through us. Again, prayer is absolutely essential for this to happen; we must rely totally on the Holy Spirit to do through us what He has asked.
*What things are you doing that give you joy? Have others told you you’re really good at something? This could be God’s still, small voice calling you into an area of ministry and service for Him. Ask Him, and tell Him you’ll follow Him into His calling for you as He leads and enables you step by step. You may want to also ask your pastor about possible areas of service within your church family.
