Lesson 41: Marriage Supper of the Lamb

Revelation 19:6-10
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”—
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

All through the New Testament we see images of and reminders for how the Church (all true believers since Jesus’ ministry began on earth until the Rapture) is called the “bride of Christ.” John 14:1-6 is Jesus telling His disciples of His return to receive them to Himself, in images that the disciples would have recognized as a wedding ceremony. Ephesians 5:22-33 is another example of where a husband and wife are compared to Jesus and the Church.

God is not playing favorites with the Church any more than He played favorites with Israel. One of the best ways to understand this is to look at what we have just seen in the antichrist’s attempted forgery of this same issue. Understand, Satan never comes up with his own original system; he is always trying in some way to copy God’s ways. The antichrist’s system included a one-world government, one-world religion, and one-world economy. This was no accident! God also has a one-world religion – and Israel was meant to be that priesthood (Exodus 19:6). God has a one-world government – and the Church will reign with Christ (2 Timothy 2:11-13). God has a one-world economy – and the nations will bring their wealth and goods to trade in Jerusalem (Isaiah 66:18-23) and will come to Jerusalem each year to celebrate the Feasts with Israel.

One of the great misunderstandings today about the Old Testament promises of wealth is in this very picture. We of today’s age are not the “nations” who were promised blessings of wealth and prosperity for obedience to God. We are the Church, and He is training us how to be “ambassadors” or part of the government, teaching us to be “rulers” with Himself! Our job in eternity will not be economical, but governmental – just as Israel’s job will be religious in nature.

*How is Jesus preparing you today to rule with Him?
