Lesson 2: Answer to our highest dream - salvation.

1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!
You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.
Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!

Throughout the history of the world, man has desired to be the best he can be – usually by making himself so by his own efforts. Such desire to be perfect is one left from the time before Adam and Eve sinned and lost their ability to become perfect.

This Psalm begins with the words, “Happy (blessed) is the one who is blameless…” How can we be this? We can only please God by following the “law of the Lord.”

Realization comes, however, that no matter how much we try to keep the laws of God, we cannot do so in our own ability or strength. Verse 2 is our key in this realization – we must seek Him with our whole heart.

Eagerly we begin in our new life with God, setting our hearts to diligently walk in His ways. We determine we will be steadfast in our loyalty so we don’t bring shame to Him or to ourselves. We praise Him willingly.

But a little fear dances in our mind, saying we are not able to accomplish all our dreams, we may fail in spite of our greatest desires, and in our weakness we might stumble – and our hearts cry out hoping He will not abandon us. But His promise says He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
