Lesson 4: Greatness of success
 www.bible.com/bible/59/psa.119

17 Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!
20 My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times.
21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments.
22 Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24 Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.

For a while our new life in Christ is wonderful. A bounty we have never known (verse 17) makes us certain we will love this life with Him forever. We will be able to walk in His ways and keep His word for He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

We learn wondrous new things from His word (verse 18), we know we are headed for His kingdom (verse 19). We are driven to know Him more (verse 20), conscious only of our great and wonderful longing for Him and His presence.

Victory seems easy and abundant in our new walk with Jesus. We are able to see the path to destruction others around us are following, and see His protection of us in a few things in our life. We know we want more (verses 19 and 20).

We even begin to see the nature of spiritual battle around us, maybe in the way young children have a total confidence in their daddy as the strongest man on the earth (verses 21-23). We want God on our side all the time to make all the wrong things happening in our life to go away.

Jesus said in Luke 18:17 we are to accept His kingdom like a child, we cannot enter it unless we do. A child’s way of accepting is without reservation, without doubt, with complete innocent confidence. But we are not to remain children in God’s kingdom – 1 Corinthians 13:11 says we used to be children and thought and spoke like children, but when we mature we put away childish things. We grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Our next lesson begins this growing.
