97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.
101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
Maturing in faith in Jesus Christ comes through meditating on Him and His word all day. The Apostle Paul wrote about this in 2 Corinthians 10:5 when he called it “taking every thought captive.” In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it is called praying without quitting. We teach our minds to focus on Him rather than on all the minor details of life trying to make us worry about things we cannot control anyway. This is one of the greatest reasons to begin your day, the moment you wake up, by reading His word and talking with Him.
The next verses in this section give us the benefits of this meditation:
- Wisdom greater than that of our enemies (Ephesians 6:12)
- Knowledge more than those who teach (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Understanding greater than the wisest of the aged (1 Timothy 4:12)
- Strength to resist temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)
- Unafraid of His judgment (Romans 8:1-2)
- Sweeter satisfaction than anything else in life (2 Corinthians 2:14)
- Truth as the foundation for all our life (John 14:6)
One of the greatest ways of meditating on God’s word is to memorize it, and then keep repeating what we have learned throughout the day. We train our mind to go where we direct it; stay focused on God throughout the day.
