Lesson 2 – God’s Promise Fulfilled
 Read 1 Kings 17:8-16 https://www.bible.com/bible/59/1KI.17.ESV
1 Kings 17:16 – The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that He spoke by Elijah.

The brook Cherith had dried up as a result of the long drought, so the Lord instructed Elijah to go to a town where a widow lived, through whom God would provide food and lodging for him. He met a woman at the city gate, and God revealed this was the widow. After Elijah asked, the woman immediately went to get him a little water, but when he also asked for a small piece of bread, the widow had to answer honestly. She said she had enough for herself and her son for one more meal. She was gathering sticks by the city gate to bake one more small loaf with the last of her meal and oil for herself and her son, and then they would starve to death.

But she recognized Elijah as a man of God, because she began her reply with – As the Lord YOUR God lives...

Elijah told her not to fear or be worried, but asked her first to make him a small cake of bread from the flour and oil she had left, then make some bread for herself and her son. Elijah told her the Lord promised that her flour and oil would not run out until the drought was over. This woman had remarkable faith in Elijah’s God, because instead of caring for herself and her son first and using her very small provisions to make their last meal, she did what Elijah said – she made him a cake of bread first. Because of her obedient faith, she experienced God’s promise fulfilled – the miracle of her flour and oil being continually supplied by God, providing their daily meals throughout all the remaining years with not a drop of rain.

Elijah did not do anything to embarrass this lady; he did not tell the whole town he was going to stay with her and God would provide food for them.

*When God has provided something you needed through someone else, how did it make you feel?
*When God asks you to help someone, do you think of how you can protect their honor even though they need help? How will you change this the next time you help someone with basic needs?
