Lesson 14 – Where is the Lord?
Read 2 Kings 2:1-14 https://www.bible.com/bible/59/2KI.1.ESV
2 Kings 2:14 - Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.

Just before God took Elijah to Heaven to live with Him, Elijah and Elisha were walking in the countryside.

“Stay here,” Elijah told Elisha. “God has sent me to another town.”

“I will not let you out of my sight,” answered Elisha. So they continued their walk to the next town.

A group of prophets met Elisha there and said, “Did you know God is going to take your master away from you today?”

“Yes, I know it,” Elisha answered, “but keep it quiet.”

This happened three times, with two different groups of prophets telling Elisha the same thing. Elisha refused to leave Elijah’s side. When Elijah and Elisha came to the shore of the River Jordan, Elijah took off his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The river divided, and the two men walked on dry ground to the other side. (Read about when God divided the Red Sea so the Israelites could cross on dry ground in Exodus 14.)

Then Elijah asked Elisha, “What would you like me to do for you before I am taken? Ask anything. (God told King Solomon, King David’s son, He would give him anything he asked for. Read 2 Chronicles 1:10 to find out what Solomon asked God to give him.)

“Your life repeated in my life,” replied Elisha. “I want a double portion of your spirit.”

“If you are watching when I am taken from you,” Elijah promised, “you will get what you have asked for; but only if you are watching.”

As they were walking and talking, suddenly a chariot and horses of fire came between them and Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind to Heaven. Elisha exclaimed, “My father! My father!” When the chariots of fire disappeared in the sky, Elisha grabbed his robe and ripped it to pieces. Then he picked up Elijah’s cloak which had fallen from his shoulders when he was taken up in the chariot. He returned to the shore of the river, rolled up Elijah’s cloak (all Elisha had left of him) and hit the river with it.

Elisha cried, “Now, where is the God of Elijah? Where is He?” The river divided, and Elisha walked across.
