Lesson 22: God’s Wisdom for Length of our Life
The fourth thing we need to remind ourselves that is not by chance is when you die.
Job 14:5 - "Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with You, and You have appointed his limits that he cannot pass..."
God is so Wise that He knows everything about us even to the point of the exact day when we die. If God knows when we will die then there must be a wise reason why He keeps us alive, right? And the Bible is very clear about this. The first wise reason God keeps Christians alive is to glorify Him. God did not save us so we could stand on His promises and then sit around on the premises. He wants us to get up off our blessed assurance and get busy doing something for His glory! Many Christians, however, think it is by chance when they die, so they tend to put off serving God until tomorrow. But one day tomorrow will not come and you will wake up dead and realize you just wasted your life!
The second wise reason why God keeps non-Christians alive is to get them saved. God extends His love to unsaved people, even down to their last breath. But if a person assumes it is by chance when they die, they will tend to put off getting saved until tomorrow. This dangerous attitude has become an epidemic in our country.
If you are a Christian, then the time to get busy is now. A war is going on and we all need to find something to do. If you cannot go to the front lines then at least support those who can. If you cannot shoot then at least carry some bullets. Do not waste your life; find something to do for the Lord. He saved you for active work in His kingdom. If you are still alive and not yet a Christian, then give your life to Jesus today. We can mess up at work, we can mess up at home, and we can mess up in marriage. But please, whatever you do, do not mess up your eternity. The stakes are too high. There really is a heaven and there really is a hell. Please make sure today that you have made your own preparations for your own journey beyond the grave. Tomorrow may never come.
This is the awesome message we get to tell others: "God not only exists, but through Jesus Christ they really can have an intimate, personal relationship with the Creator of the universe before it is too late! They do not have to miss out on heaven. They can know for sure where they will spend eternity. If the world is ever going to believe our message, then we must stop acting like practical atheists. We must demonstrate by our lips as well as our lives that God is Wise.
* Learn the A-B-C’s of Salvation: Admit you are a sinner and need a Savior (Romans 3:23 and 6:23). Believe in Jesus that He has paid the price for you (Romans 10:9-10, John 3:16). Call on Jesus; confess Him as your Lord (Romans 10:13).
