Lesson 25: God’s Wisdom or Psychology
The third place we get bad advice from is human psychology.
Corinthians 1:20 - "Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?"
According to this verse, and contrary to what society would say, not even the world's most brilliant minds are a very good source of wisdom. Man's wisdom in comparison to God's wisdom is not only foolishness, but downright nonsense. Therefore, why would anyone ever want to listen to the so-called wisdom that comes from secular psychology? It is based on man's flawed way of reasoning.
We are tempted to not go to the Father for wisdom, but to a professional psychologist. We are told by our world to seek "professional help" instead of the power of God. It does not matter how professional something sounds, that still does not make it right nor does it make it a wise. As long as we would rather listen to a human psychologist instead of our Savior, we are headed for trouble.
Proverbs 12:8 - "A man is commended according to his good sense, but one of twisted mind is despised." Some of the leaders of what is known as human psychology today were people with greater emotional problems than many they thought they could help. One was an evolutionist and refused analysis himself for an addiction he had. One based his “wisdom” on his great hatred for his mother. One was a sex addict. One was involved in the occult and listened to mediums.
Nothing here is intended to say that a Christian professional cannot help us – someone who seeks their wisdom from God. We too often search for secular psychologists who do not have God’s wisdom as a source for the advice they give. Their so-called wisdom comes from human reasoning and is therefore going to be unbiblical! What do we expect when we are told to blame our parents for all our problems, to divorce our spouse as soon as they do not meet our needs, and to make sure we love ourselves more than anyone? It is wiser to seek advice from the One Who knows all things, never makes a mistake and never changes – God!
Where are you getting your advice from? Is it from God’s wisdom or is it from man’s ideas? The longer you refuse to heed God's Word, the longer you will miss out on the blessings it contains.
This is the wonderful message we get to tell others around us: "God not only exists, but through Jesus Christ they too can have an intimate personal relationship with the Creator of the universe." I urge you, if people around us are ever going to believe our message, then we must stop acting like practical atheists. We must start demonstrating by our lips as well as our lives that God is Wise!
