Lesson 3: God’s Sovereignty in Creation

Romans 5:12 – “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”

The birthplace of sin came from satan, so here is the point. It was the "fall of satan" that started it all. The key word there is fall, which means and implies it was not that way before. Originally, the Bible says, God created this world and mankind to worship and glorify Him and have a great time with Him. He called it paradise! When He was done, He even said that it was very good. But then the devil came along, as we read in Genesis 3, and did something very bad. He fell, and then in turn tempted mankind to also turn against God so that we too would become infected with the same evil he has! The “me, myself, and I” syndrome! Then, because Adam and Eve chose to sin, each one of us is born with this same "I" problem. We too want to rule our own lives and be the master of our own destiny. Because of this act of rebellion that was started by the devil, not God, evil, death and suffering made its way into this world for the very first time. This is what Paul said in Romans, our verse above.

The Bible is clear. This world is not how God originally created it to be. Satan is the one who messed it up! God did not make some piece of junk! He made paradise! To show you just how much of a paradise it was, we look at what kind of a world God did make for us to live in, before He had to judge it and destroy it with a worldwide flood because of sin. Thanks to the oxygen bubbles trapped in fossilized amber, which happened at the time of the flood, scientists have discovered that the pre-flood world had much more air pressure and oxygen than we have today. What effects would this have on life? Dr. Carl Baugh, from the Creation Evidence Museum of Texas, says tree and plant fossils show that atmospheric conditions were much different before the flood than they are now, with a “a greater ozone layer at the time prior to the flood” which was “diminished to about one-seventh of what it was at their time, and therefore life on this earth as we know it no longer has the same life expectancy as it did at the time of the flood."

We know from fossil records that the trees back then got as tall as 1,000 feet, which also explains why we find 8-foot long fossilized beavers, because bigger beavers would be needed to chew down bigger trees. God thought of everything and knew what He was doing!

The original world God created was amazing! Then the Bible tells us that God had to judge that world because of the entrance of sin which started with satan, and then went to mankind, and now we are living in this messed up version of a world full of evil and suffering. So to answer the critic's objection that “God is not loving because He created evil," the answer is, “No!” Satan was the one who gave rise to the evil and suffering in our world today, not God.
