Lesson 2: God's Power is Seen in Creation, part 2
We continue in this lesson with God’s power visible in what exists around us:
The Brain: The brain is the most complex mechanism in the world. The average brain weighs about three pounds and contains 12 billion cells, each of which is connected to 10,000 other brain cells making 120 trillion brain connections! Scientists tell us that the average person uses less than 10% of his brain's capability. If that is true, then most people die with 10 to 11 billion brain cells still unused.
The Material World: Not only are no two snowflakes alike, but neither are no two blades of grass nor no two grains of sand.
The Animal World: The common flea is capable of jumping 100 times as high as its own head. Were champion Olympic jumpers to do as well proportionately, they would be able to jump clear over the Washington monument at one bound with some 80 feet to spare.
There are about 50,000 miles of blood vessels, of all sizes, in the human body – enough to go around the equator twice. Most of them are smaller than a human hair is wide.
That is just life on our planet. The same God who created this earth also created our universe, and what a universe it is! It is not only complex, it is huge! If you could travel at the speed of light it would take you 8.5 minutes just to reach the sun which is 93 million miles away. If you wanted to reach the nearest star it would take you 4.5 years traveling at the speed of light. If you wanted to make it across our galaxy, the Milky Way, it would take you 100,000 light years; and that is just one galaxy! Our universe is full of them! What we must keep in mind is that God not only created all this, but He did it all in six literal days. I say somebody had to be pretty powerful to do that.
There is more. God not only created all of life in six literal days, but when He was doing it, He flung it down like it was no big deal.
Ephesians 1:3-4 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him."
The word "foundation" there in the Greek literally gives the picture of "flicking the hand" like you are just casually tossing something down. I do not know about you, but I would say that anyone who could casually throw the world and the whole universe into existence, might be just more powerful than you and I are.
* How does your life change if you accept that Jesus created everything, rather than everything coming into existence by chance?
