Lesson 6: God's Power Means There is Nothing He Cannot Do
We say we believe in God, but too often by our lips and by our lives we act like He is not there. This not only keeps us from growing in our own walk with God, but it also keeps others from believing in God.
We cannot only know that God is powerful but we need to know what God's power is like.
Numbers 11:18-23 - "And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the LORD, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have rejected the LORD who is among you and have wept before him, saying, ‘Why did we come out of Egypt?’” But Moses said, “The people among whom I am number six hundred thousand on foot, and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!’ Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, and be enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, and be enough for them?” And the LORD said to Moses, “Is the LORD’s hand shortened? Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not."
Moses was having a little attitude problem. He started to complain about his circumstances like everybody else. He began to doubt that God can do whatever He wants to do! This is another one of our problems too. We start to complain about our circumstances because we too begin to doubt that God is all-powerful.
The first way we know God can do whatever He wants is because He can save anyone He wants.
Matthew 19:24-26 - "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
This sounds pretty simple; God can do whatever He wants! All things are possible with Him. He did not say ‘some’ or ‘most’ things. God can do all things consistent with His character. You see, there are some things God cannot do. God cannot lie, He cannot learn, He cannot like sin, and He cannot be tempted with sin. When Scripture says that God can do all things, it speaks about all things that are consistent with His character.
You might think, "Okay, God can save my neighbor and Pastor Billy, but I think that even God could not save somebody like a mass murderer." According to his own verbal testimony, the former mass murderer, Ted Bundy, gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. God can save anyone He wants. Salvation is based not on what we do for God, but what Christ has done for us on the cross.
