Lesson 7: God’s Power Means He Can Supply Any Need He Wants
2 Kings 3:17-18 - "For thus says the LORD, ‘You shall not see wind or rain, but that streambed shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your livestock, and your animals.’ This is a light thing in the sight of the LORD. He will also give the Moabites into your hand."
The Israelites were getting a little low on provisions and so they began to think they were not only going to die of thirst but get slaughtered by the Moabites. Elisha steps in and tells them God is not only going to fill a whole valley full of water so they can drink, He is also going to take care of their enemies as well. Why did Elisha tell them that? Because God can supply any need! Notice it was not a small one either. God not only provided water for thousands of people and their animals; He provided victory over thousands of their enemies. The point is that He could not only do it but it was easy for Him! Why is it so easy for the Lord to supply any need? First of all, because He owns everything.
Psalm 24:1 - "The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world, and those who dwell therein."
Psalm 50:10 - "For every beast of the forest is Mine, the cattle on a thousand hills."
A village missionary shared a story about God's amazing provision of leather shoes when he was in college. The missionary had no money, had hardly anything to eat and had just barely enough money to pay tuition. One day he was walking across campus, which had a strict dress code, and one of the soles of his dress shoes fell off. Without missing a stride, he just slipped his shoe off, held it up into the air and prayed, "God, you know my need. Please provide me with some dress shoes," slipped his shoe back on and kept walking. When he returned to his dorm a package was there. Can you guess what was in that package? Two pairs of brand-new expensive leather dress shoes. It turns out that his Mom felt impressed the week prior to buy him a pair of dress shoes, and there was such a good sale going on, she bought two pairs. She mailed them and they got there the exact day that his older shoes gave out.
God supplies our needs so surely that He commands us to not worry about them.
Matthew 6:31-32 - "Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all."
It really is true. God knows our needs and He will supply them. He will make sure we get something to eat, drink, and wear. It may not be a pair of designer shoes, but it will be what is good for you.
* When was the last time you asked God for something and He provided it?
