Lesson 16: God's Power Can Leave Us Because We No Longer Pray to God
Acts 4:24, 29, 31 - "And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them…And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness…And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”
The early Church faced some serious problems and persecution. They prayed to God about it and received the boldness to preach the Word so powerfully that the buildings began to shake! We all talk about prayer, we believe in prayer, and we encourage each other to pray. But do we ever get around to praying? Over time, instead of praying to God right when troubles hit, we turn to entertainment. Instead of praying, we go playing! Soon we come up with the biggest excuse of all: "I have no time to pray." How many of you have heard that excuse before? It is not about time to pray, it is about priorities.
Here are some people who took the time to pray, and they saw results:
* Moses parted the Red Sea.
* Hannah was able to conceive.
* David defeated Goliath.
* Jonah was released from the belly of a large fish.
* Elijah caused it to rain.
* Elisha raised a boy from the dead.
* Samson received supernatural strength.
* Solomon received supernatural wisdom.
* Hezekiah's life was spared.
* Peter was released from jail.
* Jesus endured the cross.
They not only received the power to overcome their enemies but also the power to overcome some horrible circumstances. And this is the great news. Prayer to God does not work just for those people in the past. It works today!
If you refuse to pray to a supernatural God you cannot expect to experience His Supernatural Power. But the good news is, as soon as we turn away from these temptations and get our faith back and start praying to God again like we used to when we first fell in love with Him, then we begin to experience the same power and passion we had before. It really is that easy! It is as simple as returning to that child-like faith we had when we first got saved.
If it ever feels like God is a million miles away, it is not God who moved; you did. But we do not have to stay that way. Sometimes you just need to go back to having faith in God and praying to God for the seemingly impossible. He will answer and His power will become part of your life again…
* Memorize 2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
