Lesson 18: God’s Power Can Leave Us When We No Longer Obey God

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 "The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil."

If you ever wondered what the Christian life is all about, it is right here in these verses: fear God and obey His commands. God will judge everything we do, whether good or bad, by what He asks us to do. There are no secrets with Him.

We all talk about obedience, we believe in obedience, and we encourage each other to be obedient, but do we ever get around to being obedient to God? Too often we lose our fear of God. We become more afraid of other people than our Maker. We fear what our friends might think. We fear what our family might say. We are more afraid of our employer than our Creator. When the fear of man supersedes the fear of God, we are no longer obedient to God!

God asks us to be obedient not because He wants to ruin our fun. His commands are for our own good and protection. How sad it is that many Christians are walking around in life suffering an avalanche of problems and are buried under a ton of pain, especially when they do not have to be! They have been tricked and seduced into losing the fear of God and they no longer obey Him.

If we refuse to obey a supernatural God, then do not expect to experience His Supernatural Power. It is that simple.

But, this is the great news: as soon as we turn away from these temptations and get back to reading the Word of God and being obedient to God like we used be when we first fell in love with Him, then we begin to experience the same power and passion we did before. When we truly believe that our Heavenly Father is watching over us, it empowers us to live a life beyond our wildest dreams.

People of God, this is the great news. Even if you have been tricked into living like a practical atheist, you do not have to stay that way. Sometimes you just need to go back to reading the Word of God and being obedient to God like when you first got saved. It shows that you truly believe your Heavenly Father is there watching over you. You act like His child. Once you do that, then you discover that you have just been empowered to run the game of life beyond your wildest dreams! God is watching over you and He loves you and does not want to you to lose your love for Him. That is how powerful He is!

* Memorize Matthew 6:31-33 - “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
