Lesson 17: God’s Love is Faithful to Protect

1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

When it comes to the issue of daily protection from temptation, God has promised to provide a way out for us, every single time. We would think someone who has freely been saved from eternal destruction in hell would naturally take God up on His offer to not give into temptation, but we keep giving into temptation.

We do not always recognize His protection for what it is – like a lady who was being chased by a truck only to discover that the driver could see what she could not – a man hiding in the back seat of her car!

Can you imagine her joy when she discovered she had been afraid of the wrong person?

God has rescued us, even more so than the truck driver rescued that lady! He has provided a way out of every danger from temptation we face! We find that way when we ask Him to show us the way out. Sometimes that will be “standing firm” as Jesus did in Matthew 4, and sometimes it will mean that we run and face the consequences as did Joseph in Genesis 39.

Another way God is faithful to protect us is by hearing our prayers.

Romans 12:11-12 “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."

These verses tell us to always be full of prayer. The Bible says Jesus endured the pain of the cross for the joy set before Him. That joy was the reality of having a two-sided relationship with us.

One day I was doing some work in my bedroom on the computer, and I closed the door so I could get some privacy. I no sooner got started when I heard some scratching at the door, and I realized one of my dogs wanted me to open the door so she could be with me.

She kept scratching and scratching and scratching until after about five minutes I gave in, got up and let her in. She jumped up by my side, just content to lay right next to me.

As I continued to work, I wondered, "Is that our attitude in spending time with God? Do we long to be with God so much that we scratch and scratch until the door opens?

God is faithful! Out of faithfulness He not only forgives our sins, but He keeps on hearing our prayers in spite of our sins!

We do not always appreciate His faithfulness, but God keeps on providing, protecting, and hearing our prayers. God's Love and faithfulness towards us makes certain our lives will never be the same.

Thought Question: Do we long to be with God so much that we scratch and scratch until the door opens?
