Lesson 23: In the Fellowship of the Saints
In John 17:11-23, Jesus prayed for those who would believe in Him – from His disciples who heard His prayer, to us who believe in Him today without being able to see Him. His prayer for us specifically was that we would be united as believers. In many places in the Bible we, who are true believers in Him from the time of His life on earth until now, are called the Church. But we also have two other names – we are His bride (Revelation 19:7-8), and we are also His body (Romans 12:4-5).
In this new life given to us with this Gift of Salvation, we are never alone in this world – we have a connection with others who also have this Gift. More than any other group of people in the world, we have the ability to encourage each other, help each other through hard times or to grow in the Lord, and pray for each other. This is unique because our command from our Lord is we are to love each other – and no other group in the world has such a command AND the ability to do so.
Revelation 7:9 reveals, “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands…” We will be together as a fellowship of saints for all eternity – we will never again be alone or lonely!
