Lesson 27: The Inheritance of the Saints
There are two different kinds of “inheritance” named in the Bible that are linked with this Gift of Salvation. The first is found in Ephesians 1:14, “… (the Holy Spirit) is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory.”
We cannot even imagine this inheritance yet, because our minds can’t hold this kind of information. 1 John 3:2 states, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.” And 2 Timothy 2:12 promises we will reign with Him.
Colossians 3:23-24 calls our inheritance a reward for serving Jesus here – but remember our works here are subject to judgment (not us, just our works) when we get to Heaven. In 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 we read our works will be tested by fire, and only what does not burn will be credited to our account in Heaven – and the test is whether we have done our work His way or our own way, for His glory or for our own.
1 Peter 1:4 says our inheritance is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.
