Lesson 29: Light in the Lord
Ephesians 5:8 reads, “… for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” God is transparently holy. The believer has, by divine Grace, become light. It is not that divine light shines upon him merely, but he IS light in the Lord.
Look at the moon in the sky above you. It does not have its own light, but it becomes light as it faces the sun. Then our night is given light too because the moon is turned to the sun so light can be reflected from it.
When we receive the Gift of Salvation, we become light in Jesus the same way. All that made us darkness before (our sin that stood between us and God) has been removed forever and we become His light – His reflection – in this world of sin-darkened-night. Unlike the moon, which cannot control its rotation, we can in obedience remain face-toward-the-light of God to be a strong light in this darkness so those who need Him can continue to see the light.
