Lesson 6: Belt of Truth, part 3
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth,
The third thing we see about The Belt of Truth is that it Indicates seriousness.
Some bibles say, "having your loins girt about with truth," or "girding your loins with truth." And when you look at Scripture and where this phrase occurs, it speaks of the person being serious towards the things of God. Loins or literally "hip" is the word meaning the general area of the body between the ribs and the thighs, basically the midsection that includes the hips, the small of the back, the waist, and the reproductive organs. That is why the Jews considered "loins" as the place of the reproductive organs and we find phrases like "go forth from someone's loins" speaking of "being a descendant." The "loins" were in that area. But "girding the loins" also signified that a person was "ready for service" or "heavy battle." It describes a state of "seriousness" and "alertness."
Matthew 3:4 - Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Luke 12:35-36 - “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.”
In other words, we are to be seriously ready and seriously serving the Lord and seriously, eagerly awaiting His return as faithful believers.
1 Peter 1:13-16 - Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
We repeat - without Truth, everything else will fall apart. You have no place to hang your weapons, your shield, your breastplate, even your food supply. Without Truth you are in a mass of uncertainty. You are not equipped. The Christian Soldier is defeated! You are not prepared. Truth holds everything else together. And Truth literally represents our most basic need in our spiritual battle with Satan and demons. It is the belt of primary importance. You do not have to pray and fast about it, you do not have to go to a conference or buy a book, you do not have to wonder about it – it was the belt of truth. Who is the truth and Who determines truth? Jesus Himself (John 14:6).
