Lesson 15: Shoes of the Readiness for the Gospel of Peace, part 4
Ephesians 6:15 - …and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
The second option for the Gospel of Peace is called the Gospel of peace with Christ. This peace means I am no longer at war with God, I am no longer His enemy. I am, instead, His beloved child, and He will never cast me away. I am AT PEACE with Him.
Romans 5:1, 6, and 8-10 tell us, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ... For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly…but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life.”
Saved from what? From God's wrath! I was at war with Him, but now I am at peace. The blood of Jesus saved me from being God's enemy, and it has now made me a member of His family! That is the kind of peace we need to walk around in life wearing on our feet wherever we go. Why? Because this is precisely where the enemy will strike! There will be times when you do fall on the battlefield. There will be times when you act like an enemy of God and you do not put on the breastplate of righteousness. You sin; you make a mistake; and the enemy of our souls, the devil, will be right there trying to get you to think that God is mad at you; that He no longer loves you, and you have no peace with Him. You lost it, and He hates you for what you just did. But that is a lie! God does love you. You are His child. You are not His enemy. You are His Beloved and He has your back! And when you fit your feet with this good news, with this peace with God, and realize He has your back, you finally start to stand against your foe with an incredible stature.
The gospel of peace is the marvelous truth that in Christ we are now at peace with God and are one with Him. Therefore, when our feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, we stand in the confidence of God's love for us, His union with us, and His commitment to fight for us. The believer who stands in the Lord's power need not fear any enemy, even Satan himself. When he comes to attack us, our feet are rooted firmly on the solid ground of the gospel of peace, through which God changed from our enemy to our defender. We, who were once His enemies are now His children, and our heavenly Father offers us His full resources to "be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might."
