Lesson 26: The Helmet of Salvation, part 5

Ephesians 6:17
…and take the helmet of salvation,

We briefly looked at why our future salvation is important in our last lesson. We take a closer look at that subject in this lesson.

Have you ever felt as if nothing is ever going to change; it is always going to be the same as now? This is one of the ways the evil one attacks us to make us discouraged as we walk through a valley in our life, something that is not pleasant. But he is lying to you – there is a day coming when our life here on earth will be done and we step into that world where there is no more sickness, no more death, no more tears, no more disappointment! Too many of us plan only for these few short years we live here on earth, and think eternity will take care of itself.

That is also a lie from the evil one – eternity began for you the moment you were saved. Everything here in this life affects eternity for you in some way: there are rewards to be gained or lost, and there are skills to be learned for His kingdom in that eternity. We cannot learn them there – everything we need to learn needs to be done here.

We are waiting in hope that someday the battle will be over, and someday we will not have to struggle with sin, and the flesh, and the devil, and the world, and demons. Someday we will know the hope of heaven and receive the eternal inheritance that He has planned for us. Because of that, we do not mind a little pain down here — because there is a finish line to this life’s race. We do not mind a little effort — because there is a goal to reach. What drives us is the sense of victory. One day the race will be done, the battle is over, and we will have won.

Pace yourself, Christian, put on the helmet of salvation and stand in God's victory. The helmet of salvation is not just salvation, it is everything that comes with our eternal salvation, including all the promises of an eternal life of bliss with God through Jesus Christ forever and ever. That is our hope. That is what protects our head! Do not let what life looks like now distract you. Do not listen to the evil one. Do not let his lies try to penetrate your head. Do not let his evil thoughts dictate your behavior and your attitude in life. There is no excuse! God has given you what you need! And even if you have been a little weary, and become battle scarred over time, as a Christian, and have fought long and hard, do not listen to the evil one whispering to you that God has done you wrong. Rather, have you ever thought of this? Maybe the scars you have, Christian, are not from God leaving you in a lurch all alone, like the devil wants you to think. Do not let that penetrate your head. Maybe the scars are from God refusing to let you go, just like He promised.
