Lesson 11: Now and Forever - Who Is Really In Charge? (5)

What is to be our response to this knowledge of God’s work in our lives? It should be one of complete humility before God – He chose me, ME, to be one of His children. I didn’t, and still don’t, deserve such a gift, and can never do anything to ever deserve such. For me to even try to pay Him back with service for what He did for me is an insult to Him because there is not a thing I could ever do that could pay Him. For me even to try is to deny His work of grace. All I can do is to fall before Him in complete and meekest gratitude and offer Him my whole self to do and send as He wants. I tell Him, with every level of freedom I have, I place myself at Your feet, my LORD, and become Your willing slave – I own nothing for myself, I have no dreams for my life, I set no limits to what I will do for You – for You are my Wonderful God, my Everlasting Father, the Mighty Protector of my soul, the Keeper of every promise You have ever made, my Faithful Prince of Peace.

I am truly free from all worry (if I choose to set it into my heart), from all fear, from all despair, because I belong to the very Creator of all things Himself. As He was able to save me by His grace, so His grace is now great enough to help me through anything He asks of me, and all responsibility for the results live in Him rather than in me. I can face the darkest “tomorrow” with complete assurance that He remembers me (see Malachi 3:16-17) and there is nothing at all that can ever change my relationship or security in Him (see Romans 8:26-39).

And what about all of us who have loved ones who did not choose/were not chosen to be God’s own? Won’t we miss them for all eternity? Now God’s promise that “there will be no more tears” becomes to us the absolute hope that, because we will “know as [we are] known” (1 Corinthians 13:12), we will understand His purposes so clearly that we will be in total agreement with His plan and His actions.

*Have you acknowledged and submitted yourself completely to God’s sovereignty? If not, what’s keeping you from it?

My favorite Christian group sings a song that says, “He wouldn’t say ‘do it’ if it couldn’t be done, He wouldn’t say ‘win it’ if it couldn’t be won; So you might as well obey, because you know He wouldn’t say, ‘Do it’ if it couldn’t be done.”
