Part 4: Prophecies About Jesus

What is prophecy?
God is all-powerful and all-knowing. He can order events the way He chooses, and tell us about them before they occur. By revealing things that will happen in advance, God helps us make the vital step of trusting Him with our eternal destiny. A number of prophets — Moses, Elijah, Samuel, and many others — were led to write about the Savior who was coming to earth. We’ve already talked about two of them: the one the wise men were following when they arrived to bring Him gifts and the one calling Him out of Egypt.

There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that are about our Savior.

Here are just a few of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled:
He was to be born of a virgin.
The prophet Isaiah wrote, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (God with us).” (Isaiah 7:14)
He would be born in Bethlehem.
The prophet Micah foretold, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for Me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” (Micah 5:2)

Even the exact way Jesus died for our sins was foretold.
David said, “…a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.” (Psalm 22:16-18) The prophet Isaiah said, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
Christ fulfilled many prophecies when He came to earth 2,000 years ago.

Still other prophecies will be fulfilled in the future. The Apostle Peter, who was an eyewitness of Jesus’ majesty, pointed to Bible prophecy as a better way to confirm our beliefs than simple word-of-mouth because they’re actually from the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:16-21) These prophecies assure us that Christ will come to earth again at the end of the world, and He will begin His earthly reign among us as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
