Lesson 30 - Walking in Fellowship
Read Ephesians 6:18-24 - https://www.bible.com/bible/59/eph.6.esv

We have one last responsibility of walking – we are to walk in fellowship. Fellowship means we are to be with others who are also Christians. Even Adam and Eve, the first people God created, needed to be in fellowship – and God came and walked with them in the Garden of Eden. God never meant for us to be alone. So what do we do with other Christians with whom we have fellowship? Look at verse 18 in our passage, we are to pray for each other.

Praying for someone else isn’t always easy, because we don’t always know what to pray for. An example is, if someone is going through a hard time, how do we know if this is an attack from the evil one, or if it is God’s hand on them to make their faith stronger in Him?

This is why the next part of that verse is so very important – we must pray “in the Spirit” which means we ask the Holy Spirit to pray the right words for us as we pray for someone else. Did you know He does that for us? It’s His promise, and you can read that in Romans 8:26. We can ask the Holy Spirit to pray His will. And we can always pray that God’s perfect will be accomplished in someone’s life.

The next thing we do in fellowship is share what Jesus has been doing in our lives. This is called witnessing when we’re talking to those who haven’t yet accepted Christ as their Savior. With other believers it’s called being an encouragement to them. And as they share the same with us, we are also encouraged and strengthened. Even the Apostle Paul, the man God used to write over half of the New Testament books, needed that encouragement because he spent a lot of time in prison for preaching to the people around him. But he sent a friend to tell other Christians how he was doing and what God was doing through him – he was still in fellowship with other believers.

The peace that comes through fellowship, the love we can share is more than just the human kind of peace and love – it always has a third party involved – Jesus Christ Himself. In Matthew 18:20 Jesus promised that where 2 or 3 of His followers gathered, He was always there with them. Fellowship God’s way is always more than just the people who are together – it always includes Him too.

This book begins with a symphony of who Jesus Christ is in the life of the believer and what He has done for us. The last part of the book – walking in faith, wisely, in Truth, in the Spirit, in love, in light, and in conscious relationship with Him and with others – are all available to us as believers only because of who He is and what He has done for us. Our walk must be just as natural as fruit is to a healthy fruit tree. Any time we try to make these things happen in our lives we do so in our own strength – and we fall short of the mark God has set for us. Walk in His strength and might because in your heart you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior. Who He is will now be your life as the sap is the life of a tree.
