Sexual Purity - Lesson 6
What are the Consequences of Sexual Impurity?

Our prayers will go unanswered.

The Bible tells us in Psalm 66:18, “If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” Zechariah 7:13 is sobering: “’As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,’ says the LORD of hosts.” God wants to listen to us, but He doesn't listen when we’re not walking with Him in obedience because He loves us so much. He knows if He continues to bless us while we are still sinning, we will not stop sinning, and sin might destroy us. So He convicts and draws us to repent, and then He heeds our prayers.

Sexual sin opens doors for the enemy to attack.

Revelation 12:10, prophesying future events, encourages us that our enemy’s days are numbered, but he is constantly accusing us now: “And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.’” When we are living in sexual sin and have not repented of it (we are living in direct disobedience to God), the Bible tells us our prayers will not be effective.

So when the devil presents his case to the Lord (nothing on this earth ever happens unless the Lord has allowed it – read the book of Job, chapters 1 and 2), he will have legal ground against us. He will be allowed to attack us – through sickness, financial distress, emotionally, or any area he sees fit. Only the Lord, because of His mercy, can limit him on the areas and severity of attack. Sexual sin is definitely an open door to demonic attack.

Apply God’s Word to your life:

Have you experienced, or are you now experiencing, the feeling your prayers aren’t going any higher than the ceiling? Do you sense any areas of demonic attack in your life?
Pray about your answers to these questions. God is waiting with open arms for you to repent and return to Him. Always remember, God is infinitely more powerful than our enemy. “ … He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4b).
