Different people are "wired" to receive love in various ways, in what has been described by one author as a "love language:" For some, it is physical touch; for others, kind words; gifts; acts of service; or quality time. God has a love language too. That language is obedience. Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments" (John 14:15). The wisest and richest king in the world told God that he would build Him a great house. God honored Solomon's desire to do this great thing for Him, but what He really wanted from him was obedience. He said, "Concerning this house which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you" (1 Kings 6:12). Even regarding the religious duties of sacrifice that He Himself established, God says He prefers obedience (Hosea 6:6).

You can vow to do the greatest thing for God and promise Him all your affection, but obeying Him is what matters most. When you search the Bible to see what God wants you to do, and then do what it says, you are obeying God and showing Him that you truly love Him.
