Just as Jesus overcame the world, it is His intention that we "overcome the world" and become victorious:
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?  (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)  No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. (Romans 8:35-37)

God’s plan goes beyond my temporary comfort and security, to eternity. He wants His people's lives to demonstrate their unshakable trust in Him, to overcome the testimony of the world by continuing to believe in Jesus--in spite of the trouble we face because morally wrong choices are still allowed.
