Lesson 2: God is Light, Walk in the Light
1 John 1:5-7 (ESV) - www.bible.com/bible/59/1jn.1.esv
God’s Words:
“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
My words:
God, you are my Light … how thankful I am for Your promise never to leave me stumbling in the darkness – You yourself light my path as I follow You step by step! Your perfect, shining Light will not allow the slightest shadow of darkness to remain in my heart. Shine Your searchlight into every corner of my life and reveal any thought or motive displeasing to You so I can bring these to You, asking forgiveness. I praise You that Jesus’ blood keeps me cleansed from every sin – even the sins I’m not aware of. I desire unbroken fellowship with You, Lord, and with each of your children here on earth. Enable me to practice Your Truth, sharing Your life, living in the Light of Your love.
That judgmental thought I had about my friend … Lord, please forgive me. The unkind words I spoke to my family this morning – place those under Your cleansing blood, and open up an opportunity for me to ask his forgiveness, also. I haven’t been praying for my pastor as I should be … I felt tired and watched television instead of spending time with my loved ones last night. Thank You, Patient Teacher, for reminding me of ways I’m falling short, and for giving me a fresh start without condemning me.
Walking with You in Your Light, amen
*Take a few minutes right now to let God’s Spirit shine His Light into your life. Invite His Light to dispel the areas of darkness, and begin walking in the Light as you confess falling short of His holiness, and repent – turning in the opposite direction and walking closely with Jesus.
