Lesson 3: Forgiveness – Admit and Be Forgiven
1 John 1:8–2:2 (ESV) - www.bible.com/bible/59/1jn.1.esv

God’s Words:
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

My words:
Precious Savior, thank You for being my Priest-Friend, my Advocate, for solving my sin problem by serving as my atoning sacrifice. You continually enjoy the presence of Your Father and my Father, and when He looks at me, He sees Your cleansing blood instead of my sin. Because You, the Truth, are in me, I cannot claim that I’m free from sin. I admit and confess my sin to You, Lord – I constantly fall short of Your holiness and perfection – and trust You to continually cleanse me from all my unrighteousness.

I long to obey you more often and with my whole heart. Please make me more aware of temptation in its early stages, and show me the way out You have promised, then strengthen me to choose to obey You because I love you more than I love giving in to temptation. One of the deep joys of Heaven I look forward to so much is being free of sin, finally and everlastingly. Until then, I cherish Your mercy and grace, and rest in the fact that my sins are removed, as far as the east is from the west.
In the Name of the Lamb of God, my perfect High Priest, amen.
