Lesson 4: Know – You Are in Him
1 John 2:3–2:11 (ESV) - www.bible.com/bible/59/1jn.2

God’s Words:
“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”

My words:
Dearest God of Love and Light, I marvel that You, the all-powerful God of the Universe, want to be known by me. You desired a relationship with me so deeply that You sent Your Son Jesus to live with us, and even allowed us to kill Him. Thank You for the assurance that I know You, because You give me the desire and power to obey You. My desire is to love You more and obey You more often and more fully.

I treasure Your Living Word, Jesus, and Your written Word, the Bible. The Bible shows and tells me exactly how Jesus lived on earth, so I know exactly how You want me to live. I truly appreciate Your illustration of ideal life. Mature Your unconditional love and abundant life in me.

Lord, thank You that you are the True Light, and Your Light is blazing – in this world and in my heart! I ask You to give me Your love for my brothers and sisters in this world. As I bask in Your Light, I’ll reflect Your Light to others, as the moon reflects the light of the sun.
Living in Your Love and in Your Light, amen.
